We are Shaftesbury, a registered charity, and we provide support for people with memory concerns and dementia and for those caring for family or friends in Suffolk. We have recently been funded by NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board and Suffolk County Council to provide a new service: Shaftesbury Suffolk Memory and Dementia Support.
What does the service provide?
If you are concerned about your memory, or have a diagnosis of dementia our trained advisors will listen, answer your questions and provide you with tailored information to meet your needs, either on the phone or face to face. Depending on your needs, an advisor can also tell you about local services and sources of help, such as support groups or refer you to organisations that can help. This service aims to be the one place you turn to, via our helpline or website for information and support so you only have to tell your story once, no matter what stage you are at. If you are worried about your memory, awaiting a memory assessment or following a diagnosis – you will be treated as an individual. If you are a carer worried about or supporting someone else with memory concerns or dementia, we can help you too.
Why is the service needed?
Suffolk is the fastest-ageing county in the country. In December 2024, there were an estimated 10,800 people living with dementia in Suffolk, a figure predicted to increase to 23,000 by 2040 according to a report by Healthy Suffolk.
When and how can I access support?
A free local helpline number is now available Monday to Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday, Sundays and bank holidays 10am–4pm.
